Proposition 4 – on the November ballot – would fund more local spaces for keeping cool in LA County, Saving Lives Amid Intensifying Extreme Heat Events
Los Angeles, CA – The triple-digit heat wave that blanketed Southern California this week resulted in electrical outages and emergency rooms stretched to capacity. Cooling centers alone were not able to protect Califirnia’s most vulnerable community members.
“Heat waves are striking our state with greater frequency and intensity. To protect Californians we need new investments in tree-planting, urban greening and other special programs,” said Jonathan Parfrey, executive director of Climate Resolve. “Heat waves are not only deadly, but they also harm the economy, resulting in diminished productivity, increased absenteeism and breakdowns in public infrastructure. Passing Prop 4 this November is simply a smart investment. It will help Californians beat the heat.”
