Sacramento, CA – The Yes on 4 campaign is moving full steam ahead to November with an official campaign committee and a growing coalition focused on making urgent investments in wildfire protection, safe drinking water, and protecting the California we love from increasing climate threats. Voting Yes on 4 shifts California from a costly disaster-response posture to preventing billions in runaway costs as threats from a changing climate grow.

“Proposition 4 represents the largest investment in conservation in our state’s history and is essential to ensure clean drinking water and clean air for California, and to prevent the worst effects of wildfires, floods and droughts,” said Mike Sweeney, Executive Director of The Nature Conservancy California. “It’s up to us to make sure the natural resources we all rely on are there for future generations. By supporting Prop 4, we are investing in a resilient future for the state we love.”

“Yes on 4 is a crucial opportunity for Californians to protect the natural beauty that defines our state while addressing the urgent threats of wildfires and water scarcity,” said Guillermo Rodriguez, California Director with Trust for Public Land. “Prop 4 is the right solution for this moment—investing in public land to ensure all Californians can access outdoor spaces closer to home, while also safeguarding our communities by enhancing wildfire resilience and securing clean, safe drinking water. The costs of inaction is too high for all of California. Yes on 4 is vital to ensuring a healthier future for everyone.”

“Yes on 4 represents a transformational shift from disaster response to disaster prevention, protecting California’s iconic and world-renowned natural beauty from the constant threat of destruction at the hands of wildfire, extreme heat, and sea level rise,” said Bridget Fithian with California Council of Land Trusts Action Fund. “Prop 4 addresses our most urgent needs today and allows us to pass on a healthy, livable California to the next generation.”

“California’s most pressing environmental challenges — the intertwined crises of climate change, biodiversity loss, and environmental inequity and injustice— demand urgent, comprehensive action,” said Avi Garbow with Resources Legacy Fund. “Yes on 4 will protect the health and well-being of our communities by  making smart investments in water infrastructure, wildfire prevention, the preservation of natural habitats and open spaces, and myriad other programs that support the environment.”

“Prop 4 gives California cities the resources they need to uphold the quality of life in California communities,” said Carolyn Coleman, Executive Director and CEO of the League of California Cities. “Yes on 4 will provide millions of Californians with secure access to clean drinking water, help protect the millions of homes that are at risk of wildfire destruction, and provide funding for cooling centers to protect people from extreme heat. Yes on 4 will ensure we are prepared for the next disaster before it strikes.”

“The effects of climate change aren’t waiting for better budgets. Sooner or later, we’ll all pay for its impacts,” said President and CEO of Save the Redwoods League and Co-Chair of the Clean Water Natural Resources and Parks Coalition (CWNRP). “If we can invest in forest health and fire resilience, rather than paying the exponentially higher cost of catastrophic wildfire, that’s a bargain. The same is true with preventing floods, protecting coastal communities and safeguarding against extreme heat.”

“Giving firefighters the tools to prevent wildfires is the best, most cost effective way to prevent the human and financial costs of these disasters,” said CALFIRE Firefighters President Tim Edwards. “Prop 4 makes the right investments to save lives and billions in response and recovery costs.”

“Too many communities across California lack access to clean drinking water, putting families and children at risk,” said Jennifer Clary, State Director, Clean Water Action. “Yes on 4 makes the right investments to ensure everyone has safe, clean water and protects our water supply, safeguarding the health and future of all Californians.”
